Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literary Prize
The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for Literature is granted in recognition of the literary work of women in the Hispanic world. Founded in 1993, it is awarded each year to the female author of a novel originally published in Spanish and carries US $10,000 cash purse. The award is given by the Guadalajara International Book Fair with funding from the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana.
The Prize was created and named by Nicaraguan writer Milagros Palma and awarded for the first time upon the conclusion of the 4th Annual Latin American International Literary Criticism and Women’s Literature Symposium, held as part of the Guadalajara International Book Fair in 1993. It was subsequently integrated into the Fair’s annual activities and has been given out every year since, except in 2000.
