Biography
MarÃa Gainza is a writer and art critic. She worked at The New York Times bureau in Buenos Aires and was editor of the Argentine art collection at Editorial Adriana Hidalgo. For ten years, she contributed to Radar, the cultural supplement of Página/12, and to Artforum.
She taught courses for artists at the Centro de Investigaciones ArtÃsticas (CIA) and art criticism workshops at Universidad Di Tella. In 2011 she published Textos elegidos with Editorial Capital Intelectual, a collection of essays on Argentina. In 2014 she published El nervio óptico, her first work of fiction, originally released by Mansalva and later republished by Anagrama and translated into more than ten languages. In 2018, Anagrama also published her novel La luz negra.
