Cristina Rivera Garza (Matamoros, 1964) holds a PhD in Latin American History and taught at universities in Mexico and the United States. A writer of novels, short stories, poetry, and essays, she received awards such as the José Rubén Romero Prize (1997), the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize (2001), the Juan Vicente Melo Prize (2001), and the Anna Seghers Prize (2005).

Her works include Nadie me verá llorar (2000), La cresta de Ilión (2002), and La muerte me da (2007). Her writing has been translated into several languages and reshaped genres such as the thriller through bold narrative strategies. She taught Creative Writing at the University of California, San Diego.
