Monsieur Ed publishes 5 to 6 books each year. The press believes that literature creates a precious space where our imagination can be free and a way to better understand ourselves and to connect and relate as human beings. Monsieur Ed publishes authors and illustrators from Quebec and around the world; they would love to create new partnerships with artists who can help young readers appreciate the beauty and diversity of our world. One of the greatest collaborations they’ve had has been with Venezuelan Marianne Ferrer whose books have had great success and been translated into multiple languages.
With this fellowship, Valérie wishes to broaden her knowledge of the Latin American children’s book market and expand her relationships with like-minded publishers. She’s also very interested to meet with illustrators that could potentially work with Monsieur Ed.
Born in 1974, Valérie currently lives in Montreal and is herself an author/illustrator. At the age of 12, she won her class's writing contest with her story "The Conductor's Batons." From then on, she was convinced she would one day become a writer. She studied art, literature, and anthropology, having traveled to Peru where she participated in archaeological digs. She enjoys taking her time, savoring a good cup of tea, drawing, writing, and doing artsy stuff with her chihuahua, Benjamin.
