WSOY has always been at the vanguard of modern literature, discovering and publishing the very best writing both in Finland and from the world at large. Is a household name in Finland and the publisher of a great number of the classic Finnish authors, alongside their international contemporaries. WSOY publishes a wide range of Finnish and translated literature, fiction and non-fiction, for all age groups.

Lotta works in the acquisitions team of foreign adults’ fiction, where they translate books widely from different languages. Their list includes many books from the Anglo-Saxon world and from neighboring Scandinavian countries, but right now in the pipeline also have translations from French, German, Italian, Polish and even Ancient Greek. Lately a lot of interesting books and authors have been emerging from the Spanish language area, especially from South and Latin America, and they are interested in finding Spanish-language books that would be suitable for their market and readers. They have translated works from Fernando Aramburu, Gabriel García Márquez, Maria Dueñas and Pedro Juan Gutiérrez.

Charco Press is a relatively new independent publisher based in the United Kingdom and dedicated exclusively to the translation into English of contemporary, award-winning Latin American authors who mostly have not been published in English before. They aim to bring to the English-speaking world the most outstanding fiction from Latin America with the aim to diversity – and amplify – the cultural offer currently available to Anglophone readers. Also aims to provide an opportunity for emerging translators to enter the world of literary translation so they tend to work with young talent as well as very well-established and recognized translators. Despite only concentrating on novels and short stories at present, in the near future they plan to also publish poetry, classics and children’s books all by Latin American authors not previously translated into English.
To Carolina, FIL Guadalajara is undoubtedly one of the most important book fairs in the world, and the most important in Latin America. Given that they are dedicated to Latin American literature and their ambitious aim to become the reference point for contemporary Latin American fiction in English, it is essential to start taking part in it so as to establish direct contact not just with Latin American publishers, but also key cultural as well as literary agents. This will be an important opportunity to Carolina to take part in meetings and showcase the work that Charco Press is doing in addition to seeing at first-hand the book production of the publishing houses attending the FIL. Among others, they have published the work of Selva Almada, Claudia Piñeiro, Julián Fuks, Margarita García Robayo, Giuseppe Caputo, Rodrigo Fuentes and Renato Cisneros.

Two Lines Press currently publishes 6 books and 2 issues of their journal each year. Their list focuses on the best contemporary literature from around the world in the best translations. The Spanish and Portuguese publishing world is one of the largest and most diverse in the world, but only a fraction of that work makes its way into the pipeline of projects that get presented to American publishers.

CJ is glad to participate in this program to learn more about publishing houses, authors, and markets with which he is not currently familiar, and to broaden his relationships with editors and authors. They’ve published books by, or have forthcoming titles under contract from: Jazmina Barrera, Elvira Navarro, João Gilberto Noll and Santiago Roncagliolo. They’ve also published dozens of Spanish and/or Portuguese-speaking authors in their journal. In 2019 are publishing a special folio of “haunted” stories from Mexico authored by Alberto Chimal, Luis Felipe Lomeli, Pergentino José, Daniela Tarazona, and Milena Solot.

Founded by Klaus Wagenbach in 1964, is a Berlin-based, independent publishing house and still holds on to its objective of publishing books out of conviction, with pleasure and prudence. They strive to discover unknown authors, to rediscover modern classics and to give room to new literary trends. Although its publishing program primarily focuses on fiction it also includes books dedicated to history, art and cultural history as well as political essays. Each year they publish about 50 titles, half of which are first publications: translations from Italian, Spanish, English and French as well as a variety of German-language books. They have published Daniel Alarcón, Tristan Garcia, Carlo Ginzburg, Natalia Ginzburg, Michel Houellebecq, Francesca Melandri, Alberto Moravia, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Ricardo Piglia, Sergio Pitol, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, and many more.

Linus is very interested in the personal contact with agents, rights sellers and Spanish-language editors, intensifying relationships with like-minded literary publishers in the Spanish- and Portuguese-language countries, and learn more about their new titles and authors. He would also love to get to know the working atmosphere in publishing houses in these territories and the FIL Exchange Program seems to be a perfect opportunity to do so. However, Linus hopes to bring at least one great work of Mexican or Latin American fiction to Germany and maybe draw some interest on Wagenbach list.

Publishing books translated fiction, politics, media and information and history. They have published two novels by the Portuguese author José Luís Peixot, four novels by Claudia Piñeiro, and also the work of Elsa Osario, Patricia Melo, Adriana Lisboa, Héctor Abad, Ana Maria Machado, Eça de Queirós, Gustavo Faverón Patriau, Juan Villoro, Héctor Aguilar Camin and Inês Pedrosa, among others.

As they have huge interest in South American culture and need to find more about it, Sherif is very excited about visiting the biggest and most professional book fair in the region and try to get to know better the culture scene.

After a long preparation period, Dedalus said “hello” to its publishing adventure in the spring of the 2011. The aim of their publishing house is to provide its readers with selected books, assigned itself to introduce translated literature, which reiterates the literary profoundness and standard with its meaning and aesthetics. They have translated authros like Jose Emilio Pacheco, Elvira Navarro, Norbert Scheuer, Yuiri Seierai, Nodar Dumbadze, Erlom Akhveldiani, Walter Mosley and Drago Jancar.

Sedat has many knowledeges about Europe publication but no information about Latin America. Sedat is fan of García Márquez, Cortázar or Borges, but doesn’t have much more who writes in Potuguese or Spanish nowadays.

Independent Australian literary publisher of award-winning poetry, fiction and non-fiction, renowned for the quality of its writing, editing and book design, and its discovery of adventurous writers from diverse backgrounds. Their titles have won every major literary award in Australia, often work which crosses traditional generic boundaries, with a strong representation of Indigenous writers, writers of migrant background, and the publication of young writers, particularly from disadvantaged social and cultural backgrounds. Giramondo is increasingly known for its translations of literary works, especially from South America, China and India, and has sold rights to its translations into the United States.

Nick has a strong interest in writing from Latin America. He would like to expand their list of translations from Spanish, and find Portuguese-language authors from Brazil, an area they have not previously explored. He is particularly keen to find and acquire challenging, adventurous literary works in fiction and non-fiction. Their list includes translations from authors such as Mariana Dimópulos, Marcelo Cohen, José Luis de Juan, Bruno Lloret and Guillermo Fadanelli.

Editions du Sous-sol (Underground publisher) was independently founded in 2011 and became an imprint of the prestigious Editions du Seuil in 2014. Thanks to its editorial independence and the care they bring to its graphic line and communication, journalists, booksellers and readers see them as an indie publisher and appreciate the quality of its books. With 15 to 20 titles per year, they focus on foreign literary non-fiction (narrative non-fiction and literary journalism) and foreign fiction, but also illustrated books, and publish a quarterly magazine dedicated to literary journalism called Feuilleton.

They have successfully started publishing Spanish and Portuguese speaking authors a few years ago and, as a French-Brazilian chief editor, Marine intends to develop acquisitions from these languages. They have published Mariana Enriquez, Maria Sonia Cristoff, João Pina and Manuel Vilas. The FIL Rights Exchange is a great occasion to strengthen her network by meeting new publishers from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, and to exchange with other foreign publishers who share the same interests. She also expects to discover new authors and hopefully come back with at least one new name on her list.

Is part of the Publishing Dudaj Group and has been operating in Albania for more than eighteen years now. They have published more than 500 titles, mostly translations from other languages into Albanian. Its mission is acquainting the Albanian readers with the best-known works internationally and nationally, but is mostly known for the translations, as 85% of the publications are translations from different languages. Their publications are designed to satisfy the taste of all kinds of readers, i.e. fiction (prose and poetry), non-fiction, academic, biographies and pamphlets, and children literature. The authors published come from all over the world, selected for the quality of their work, with a special place is also given to Spanish, Portuguese and Hispanic literature with important authors such as Javier Marias, Javier Cercas, Manuel Vilas, Jordi Punti, Goncalo Tavares, Alfonso Cruz, Clara Sanchez, Dulce Maria Cardoso, Jose Saramago, Adriana Lisboa, Luis Sepulveda and Isabel Allende, among others.

As Arlinda is very passionate about the Spanish and Portuguese Literature, she find very interesting to visit closely a book fair targeted to this interests. She would find very appealing to follow the trend of this special kind of Literature. Arlinda was raised with the lovely magic realism of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende, it will be a dream to come closer to their world. And she is looking to find some new names to read and publish in Albanian, to meet new colleagues etc. It will help her to acquaint a wider vision of these amazing literature.

With scale business and industrialization as strategic orientation, they have completed two rounds of financing. The company has so far possessed eleven mature product lines, such as fiction, literary arts, poetry, finance, psychology and self-help, academic culture, popular comic books, spiritual, YA comic books, children’s books, cultural education, biography, history, geography, etc. Among which, fiction is its most competitive product line.

Feng is in charge of world translated literature department, and as for as she knows, Latin America literature has had a profound effect on Chinese writers and readers, but thinks her impression is from the most well-known writers. A big fan of Latin America literature, she wants to find the new voices and young authors so she can bring to Chinese readers a new landscape. Xiron Books has published authors like Milena Busquets, Killian Jornet, Aleida March and Sofía Rhei.
