There are cities we cannot imagine without picturing a silhouette on the subway holding a book, or streets filled with people carrying bags overflowing with books, or lines of children and adults visiting a library, and families spending the day in the park surrounded by books. This panel presents various cases and approaches (from bookselling, to public, private, or community management) of what, for many of us, can be considered paradise.

Shall we talk about sustainability?
Every day, the need to move toward a world that is more environmentally sustainable, socially just, and transparent in all decision-making processes becomes clearer. Bookstores, given their significant cultural influence, should be at the forefront of meeting these criteria. This workshop, drawing on the work carried out at La Central bookstore, aims to share and discuss the topics within these three areas that matter most to us and where bookstores can act most effectively. Together, we can establish how to work toward this ethical commitment and how to benefit from it.
