The University of Guadalajara, through a project created by the Environmental Sciences Museum as part of the University’s Cultural Center, and with the support of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, has established the José Emilio Pacheco City and Nature Award. The prize, which will be given for the first time this year, will be dedicated to poetry. The winning author, who must write in Spanish and have at least ten unpublished poems or poems published in the last five years that are related to nature, urban sustainability, socio-ecological harmony and environmental conservation, will be given a purse of US $10,000. The award is dedicated to poet José Emilio Pacheco, whose work explores the duality between cities and nature.
Created by the University of Guadalajara, and with the collaboration of the National Institute for Indigenous Languages, the Culture Ministry, the National Commission for the Development of the Indigenous Cultures and Jalisco’s Department of Education, the American Indigenous Literature Award is granted to enrich, protect and promote the legacy and richness of Mexico’s indigenous peoples through literature in all its forms, and to and acknowledge and further develop the careers and works of indigenous authors. The award, which carries a purse of US $25,000, will be given for the fourth time at the 2016 FIL Guadalajara.
The SM Ibero-American Award for Literature for Children and Young People was implemented in 2005, the year of Ibero-American literature, with the goal of promoting literature for children and young people throughout Ibero-America. The award is given out each year during the Guadalajara International Book Fair to recognize writers of literature for children and young people and carries a purse of US $30,000.
With the goal of creating a network that helps to encourage the work of illustrators of books for children and young people in Ibero-America, the SM Foundation and the FIL Guadalajara invites illustrators to submit their work to be included in the Annual Ibero-American Illustration Catalog. The 45 works selected will be displayed in an exposition at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. In addition, illustrators will have the opportunity to work on an illustrated book with Ediciones SM and the winner will be given US $5,000. Digging in the Well of Forgetfulness
Marilar Aleixandre starts a dialogue with the Mexican author Cecilia Eudave, who accompanies her to share with the readers the process of writing As malas mulleres (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2022) a novel between reality and fiction, written to recover the memory of excluded, unfortunate women, to whom no one paid attention. They invite us to recognize those lives from literature, fiction and essay.

María Pilar Jiménez Aleixandre states that writing is a furtive activity, especially for those who, like her, have a split tongue, although both halves or voices are feminist: one is a storyteller and poet in Galician, which she achieved by appropriating the childhoods and imaginaries of others; the other, a biologist, that has done research on argumentation and critical thinking. Sometimes one of these voices gets stuck in her throat, like the bones of the fish that in Galicia are eaten with the head.
She writes about the social violence exerted on collectives, about lives that no one has cared about. Her narrative has earned her numerous awards, most recently the 2022 National Literature Prize for Narrative for As malas mulleres (2021), in Spanish titled Las malas mujeres (Xordica, 2022), which recovers the life of the prisoners in La Galera; and the volume of stories Lobos nas illas (Edicións Xerais, 1996). Author of more than twenty juvenile and children's novels highly awarded; most translated into Spanish and two of them into English, as well Head of Medusa, (Small Station Press, 2019), about the social rape that follows the physical one. Perhaps because she is a biologist, her poetry is populated by wild flowers - with spikes, like gorse – and rebellious animals, like in Ovella descarreirada.
Three of her volumes of poetry are collected in Mudanzas e outros velenos (2017). Since 2017, she is part of the Royal Galician Academy. Unrepentant traveler, she recalls the Arab proverb: one should not trust women travelers, for they tell many lies (storytellers too).
Cecilia Eudave

Narrator and essayist. Among her publications as a writer we mention: Registro de Imposibles, Bestiaria vida, with which she won the Juan García Ponce Novel Prize; Técnicamente humanos y Otras historias extraviadas, Para viajeros improbables , Microcolapsos. Her most recent books are Al final del miedo published by Páginas de Espuma in 2021, and the novel El verano de la serpiente under the Alfaguara label in 2022. She also writes children's stories with titles such as Papá Oso and Bobot, and a novel for young people. She has been translated into several languages and participated in various anthologies and magazines in her country and abroad. In 2014, she was the guest writer of honor by the Ministry of Culture and the Korean Translation Institute; in 2016 she was awarded the Latin America Chair by the Jean Jaurès University in Toulouse, France, and in 2018 she was the guest of honor of the Dolores Castro Chair by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. In 2023 she was favored by the Francisco Giner de los Ríos program for a stay as a writer and guest professor at the Alcalá de Henares University, Spain.

Not a Day Without Poetry
For Diego Moldes, writing poetic micro-stories every day became a vital act, regardless of the style, theme or formalities. From this daily exercise the poetry collection Not a Day Without Poetry was generated. Moldes will talk with Rocío Cerón, a Mexican poet and artist, about both of their poetic work.

Diego Moldes
(Spain, 1977)
He is the author of several books, narrative and essay, mainly about film: La huella de Vértigo (2004), essay on the influence of Alfred Hitchcock's film; Roman Polanski. La fantasía del atormentado (2005); the first book about the filmmaker Roman Polanski written in Spanish; or El cine europeo. Las grandes películas. (2008). He is also the co-author of more than a dozen collective books. In 2009 he published two books on Real Madrid basketball.
He was a screenwriter, editor and presenter of Televisión de Galicia.
He wrote the script in Galician of Niebla (awarded by the Xunta de Galicia, the rights were sold to the Vigo filmmaker Juan Pinzás), in addition to various stories and articles.
He was a contributor to the program Pantalla Panorámica, from Radio Círculo del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid (2004-2005), of the TV program Tiempo de Tertulia, and in various publications in traditional and digital press, as well as from the Spanish Film Library and the Sefarad-Israel House, among other institutions.
He has a PhD in Information Sciences (Audiovisual Communication) from the Complutense University; a degree in Advertising and Public Relations (University of Vigo) and a Master's degree in publishing from Oxford Brookes University.
Since 2004 he has been living in Madrid, where he works as a marketing executive, in the areas of culture and cinema. In 2019 he served as Director of Institutional Relations of the Antonio de Nebrija University and the Nebrija Foundation.
His most recent published books are a monograph on the cinema of Alejandro Jodorowsky, the novel Ensoñación, the book of narrative, poetry and essay Venuspasión and the poetry book Ni un día sin poesía. In 2019 he published Cuando Einstein encontró a Kafka. Contribuciones de los judíos al mundo moderno, the result of reading, for 20 years, more than 300 books and more than two thousand articles and documents, and the viewing of 200 fiction films and documentaries.
Rocío Cerón
(México, 1972)
Es poeta y artista, reside en la Ciudad de México. Su obra investiga las formas de construcción de la memoria, sus vacilaciones, la suspensión de sentidos (para crear otros sentidos) y el desplazamiento como territorios de choque para crear piezas transmediales. Ha lanzado el álbum de poesía sonora Sonic Bubbles (2020) y publicado los libros de poesía Simultáneo sucesivo (2022), Divisible corpóreo (2022), Spectio (2019), Materia oscura (2018), Borealis (2016), Nudo vortex (2015), Diorama (2012) y Basalto (2022), entre otros. Diorama fue traducido por Anna Rosenwong, y ganó el Best Translated Book Award 2015, otorgado por la Universidad de Rochester (Estados Unidos). También ha sido galardonada con el Premio Nacional de Literatura Gilberto Owen 2000 (México) y el Premio See America Travel Award 2005 (Estados Unidos). Sus poemas se han traducido al inglés y a diversos idiomas europeos. Piezas suyas han sido expuestas en escenarios internacionales. En 2021 fue una de las 25 artistas seleccionadas para la Bienal de Fotografía del Centro de la Imagen en México. En 2022 recibió las Residencias Córdoba-Ciudad de las Ideas de la Fundación Artdecor y el Ayuntamiento de Córdoba (España) y del Centro de Investigación, Innovación y Desarrollo de las Artes (Monterrey, México) para desarrollar proyectos de poesía sonora y performática para intervención en espacios públicos. Statement creativo
Mis piezas parten desde la apertura de la cognición corporeizada como forma receptiva de conexión. Discurro entre el lenguaje, el sonido del mundo (los oídos son los nuevos puertos de embarque poético).
Los performances que realizo, donde voz y experimentación sonora son instrumentos del lenguaje, intentan cortar el ruiderío sordo contemporáneo, susurran al oído un flujo sonoro que lleva al espacio secreto de la conciencia, de la cueva primigenia, del canto sacrificial: voz que alumbra y cuestiona, voz que, como Scheherezade, salva la cabeza y nos reencuentra con lo profundo humano.

Brais Lamela
(Spain, 1994)
Brais Lamela is a Galician-language writer. He currently lives in New York, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in literature at Yale University. He is the author of the hybrid novel Ninguén queda, originally published in Galician by the Euseino Foundation (2022) and recently translated into Spanish (Cuatro Lunas, 2023) and Catalan (Kalandraka, 2023). Ninguén queda received the Spanish Critics Award in Galician language and it was chosen by the newspaper El País among the best books of 2022.
Brenda Navarro
Ha sido coordinadora de programas literarios, redactora, guionista y editora. Casas vacías, su primera novela, fue premiada con el Premio Tigre Juan y publicada en ocho idiomas.
Su segunda novela, Ceniza en la boca, se publicó en 2022. Obtuvo el Premio Cálamo a mejor libro del año 2022; el Premio al mejor libro del año, por la Asociación de Librerías de Madrid, y el Premio Todos tus Libros otorgado por la Confederación de Libreros Independientes en España. Además, fue uno de los libros finalistas al Premio de la Bienal Vargas Llosa 2023. Está siendo traducida a ocho idiomas. Fue parte del International Writing Program de la Universidad de Iowa, y actualmente escribe su tercera novela.
