Anna Sanpera

Anna Sanpera Trigueros holds a bachelor’s and a PhD in Physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where she was a member of the Quantum Optics group. In 1993, she became a contracted researcher and Fleming Fellow at Oxford University (UK), where she entered the then-emerging field of quantum information. From 1996 to 1998, she held a European Community research fellowship at the University of Paris-Saclay (France) and in 1998 became a researcher at Leibniz University in Hanover (Germany), where she qualified as a professor in 2000.  Since 2005, she has been an ICREA Research Professor in the Quantum Information Group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where she leads a research group focuses on quantum information, ultracold quantum gases, many-body quantum systems and, more recently, quantum learning techniques. She is actively involved in science education and public outreach. In 2024, she partnered with other European women scientists to publish the manifesto ‘Women for Quantum’ with the aim of sparking a public debate on the values that should underpin scientific and quantum technological research in these turbulent times.  Beyond her scientific work, she is a passionate reader and music and sports enthusiast, and she especially enjoys listening to what children have to say.

Miguel Alcubierre

He is a physicist from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and a doctor from the University of Wales. He worked for several years at the Albert Einstein Institute, in Germany, and since 2002 he has been a researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of the UNAM. His research area is Einstein's general relativity, and he specializes in the computational simulation of black holes. He is the author of more than 60 scientific articles, a textbook, and a popular book entitled Surfear el espacio-tiempo. He is famous for his 1994 article about a model that would allow faster-than-light travel. In addition to being a scientist, he is an enthusiastic popularizer of science. He likes music, especially the progressive rock from the seventies, and is a fan of science fiction. 

Alfred U’Ren

Alfred U'Ren holds a PhD in optics from the University of Rochester (USA, 2004). He is the founder and head of the Quantum Optics Laboratory at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of the UNAM (ICN-UNAM). He has dedicated his life to exploring the quantum properties of light. While researching some fundamental questions of physics, he also works in software development  to address social problems such as epidemics; and in the creation of technologies that will mark our future, such as quantum computing and quantum cryptography. As director of the CIE-UNAM, Alfred U'Ren is interested in promoting the equal inclusion of women in the sciences, creating ties between the scientific community and the rest of society (such as the private and industrial sectors), collaborating with other national and international educational institutions, and fostering continuous dialogues with various audiences about the future challenges of humanity.

Miguel García Guerrero

Dr. Miguel García Guerrero has a 30-year career in scientific dissemination, bringing science closer to more than 60 thousand people. Since 2001 he has been working at the Science Museum of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, and coordinates the Quark Group. Belongs to Level 1 of the National System of Researchers. He is the executive director of the Network for the Popularization of Science in Latin America and the Caribbean. His outreach books include: Átomos al desnudo; En sus marcas, listos… ¡Ciencia!; Technis: tecnología, ciencia e historia del calzado deportivo; and Átomos y moléculas.
