Pedro Uc Be

Pedro Uc Be is Mayan, he was born in Buctzotz, Yucatán, México. He is a member of the Assembly of Defenders of the Maya Múuch’ Xíinbal Territory. He currently works as a professor at the School of Literary Creation in the Mayan Language of the State Center of Fine Arts in Mérida, Yucatán. He is part of communities that follow processes of vindication of the Mayan culture and language, by generating some texts and audios around the thinking and beliefs of the communities that live connected to the land, water, the milpa, corn and nature. His literary proposal in his own language has been awarded several times.

Ofelia Medina

Actress, director and playwright, she was born in the ancient Th'o’ (former name of the city of Mérida), Yucatán. Since childhood she was a student of notable directors, musicians, painters and set designers. In 1967, she started her professional life in the show H3Oof Alejandro Jodorowski. She has participated in more than 60 stage productions. She entered the world of cinema in 1968, she has acted in more than 40 feature films and received national and international awards. The film Living Nature on the Life of Frida Kahlo by Paul Leduc, is her best known work. She has been recognized for her performances on Mexican television. Since 1985, she has been working in favor of respecting the rights of indigenous children, and in 1990 she founded the Trust for the Health of Indigenous Children of Mexico. As a playwright and passionate about poetry, she has created shows inspired by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rosario Castellanos and Frida Kahlo, Julio Cortázar, erotic literature and poetry, and many others. She has participated in the scripts of Getrudis Bocanegra, Innocent voices. In 2017, she directed the documentary Building Dreams, about the process of building the Performing Arts Ensemble of the University of Guadalajara, and in 2019 she devised, created and directed the feature documentary, La llevada y la traída, which shows the tradition of the Virgin of Zapopan. She has participated in series such as El Señor de los Cielos, for Netflix; Mosquito Coast, with the character of The Matriarch, for Apple TV; Triptych, for Netflix. Her voice has been in the animated films of The Legend of the Nahuala, as the Nahuala; and in Disney's Coco as the character of Frida. Some of the most recent feature films and series already exhibited in which she has participated are:  Macho, pero no tanto; El hubiera sí existe; Nadie sabrá nunca; Guadalupe Reyes; Mal de ojo, of nationwide exhibition and has been presented in Italy, Russia, England, the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Japan. Triptych,Hora marcada, Vecinos, Senda prohibida, among others. She is also dedicated to teaching her craft and directing actors in schools and universities in Mexico, and other countries.

Yana Lucila Lema Otavalo

(Ecuador, 1974)

She is a social communicator, videographer, translator, cultural manager, teacher, artist and Kichwa Otavalo poet.  Award for the best traditional medicine video at the 3rd Abya Yala First Nations Film and Video Festival, organized by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE, 1999); recognition for a publication in the written testimony category in the Women in Images and Testimonies competition (2000); recognition for a publication for participation in the 1st Continental Biennial of Contemporary Indigenous Arts, Mexico (2013). Organizer of five editions of the Abya Yala Literature Festival The Corn Festival (2011-2016). Organizer of the first Bibliopawkar Indigenous Book Micro-Fair, Peguche (2017). Compiler of poetry anthologies Hatun Taki (2013); Chawpi Pachapi Arawikuna (2015); Ñawpa Pachamanta Purik Rimaykuna (2016). Darío Guevara Mayorga National Prize for Children's Stories (2016) and Jorge Carrera Andrade National Poetry Prize (2021), both awarded by the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito.
Winner of the RAIZ Prize for the production of contemporary art for Ecuadorian artists (2022) with the project Away pacha, City Museums Foundation. She has published the bilingual personal poetry collections Tamyawan Shamukupani, Tujaal Ediciones, (2018) and Kanpa Shimita Yarkachini, Kintirikra Editorial (2021). Participation in the Ibero-American Contemporary Art Biennial of Alcalá de Henares, Spain, 2023. Participation in the collective art show Plants of Power, with the work Aya pampa yura. CCM. 2023-2024. Winner of the Translation scholarship at Casa Looren of Translators in Zurich-Switzerland, 2024. She is currently the coordinator of the initiative Biblioraloteca Cultural Literaria Muyu, in Otavalo, Imbabura, Ecuador, and a professor at the University of the Arts.

Dulce Ma. Zúñiga

Dulce María Zúñiga Chávez nació en Culiacán, Sinaloa, en 1961. 

Realizó estudios superiores (licenciatura, maestría y especialización) en la Universidad Paul Valéry de Montpellier, Francia. Obtuvo el doctorado en Estudios Romances, con especialidad en italiano, en la misma universidad en 1990, con una tesis sobre la obra de Italo Calvino.

Ingresó a la Universidad de Guadalajara como profesora investigadora en 1985 en la antigua facultad de Filosofía y Letras impartiendo cursos y realizando investigación en el ámbito de las letras, en especial de Italia y Francia. 

En sus 39 años de trabajo en la UdeG, ha ocupado puestos administrativos tales como Jefa del Departamento de Estudios Literarios, Coordinadora general de la Biblioteca Iberoamericana Octavio Paz y Directora de la División de Estudios de la Cultura del CUCSH. Asimismo, ha contribuido en la creación de programas académicos como el Doctorado en Humanidades, la Maestría en Literaturas Interamericanas (con doble titulación en la Universidad de Bielefeld, Alemania), la licenciatura en Estudios Liberales y más recientemente, la licenciatura en Escritura Creativa.      
Ha publicado seis libros con resultados de investigación y numerosos artículos, ensayos y traducciones en revistas internacionales. 
Una de sus actividades notables ha sido traducir textos académicos y literarios, del portugués, francés e italiano. La editorial española Siruela le invitó a traducir cuatro títulos de la obra de Italo Calvino, con el beneplácito de la familia. 
Desde 2001 es Coordinadora Académica de la Cátedra Latinoamericana Julio Cortázar, y es también directora de la Asociación Civil que otorga el Premio FIL de Literatura en Lenguas Romances. 
Actualmente es rectora del Centro Universitario de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades de la Universidad de Guadalajara, cargo que ocupa desde el 1º de mayo de 2025.

Hermann Bellinghausen

(Mexico City, 1953)

Poet, chronicler, narrator, journalist and cultural critic. He has published nine books of poetry. The most recent are En canto (UANL, 2017) and Despierto al sol (UAS-UACM, 2023).
He presented and curated the anthology Insurrección de las palabras. Poetas contemporáneos en lenguas mexicanas, reissued in 2023. 
His journalistic books are Crónica de multitudes, Pensar el 68 (with Hugo Hiriart) and Acteal, crimen de Estado. He has three books of stories: El telar de los gallos, Encuentros con mujeres demasiado guapas, La entrega, and ready for publication Mester de alfarería. In addition, the novels Aire libre and Extraños en el parque, which has just been published by the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE).
He has been a co-screenwriter of the films Ciudad de ciegos and Corazón del tiempo. He writes regularly in La Jornada since it was founded, where he directs the supplement Ojarasca.
He has received the Anna Seghers Award, the Roque Dalton Medal and the Juan Gelman recognition. In 1995, he refused the Mexican government's National Journalism Award.

José Luis Iturrioz

Nació en La Rioja (España). Cursó la licenciatura en lingüística Indoeuropea, clásica y germánica (1968-1973) y el doctorado en lingüística (1980-1985) en la Universidad de Colonia (Alemania) y la Universidad de Barcelona. Fue miembro del proyecto UNITYP (Universales y Tipología), que logró un cambio de paradigma en la teoría lingüística postgenerativa, ), que logró un cambio de paradigma en la teoría lingüística postgenerativa, donde hizo una contribución importante con la investigación de la lengua vasca (euskera). De 1980 a 1982 fue profesor de Lingüística Formal en la Universidad de Colonia (Alemania). Ha sido profesor invitado en las universidades del País Vasco 1992, de Salamanca 1994, de Barcelona 2005, en la Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität de München, Alemania en 2006 y 2009, en Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies de la Universidad de Friburgo en 2010. 
Es autor o coautor de más de 150 trabajos científicos y de divulgación. Ha impartido unas 200 conferencias y ponencias en diversos foros y universidades de varios países: México, España, Alemania, Suiza, Austria, Chile Costa Rica, China. 
Desde 1985 Director del Departamento de Estudios en Lenguas Indígenas de la UdeG y director de la revista FUNCION (34 números publicados). 
Sus áreas de interés son la lingüística y la epistemología. Mi principal trabajo empírico está en la investigación de algunas lenguas indígenas como la lengua huichola, el tlapaneco, el náhuatl con los siguientes proyectos principales: Gramática científica del huichol; Gramática didáctica del huichol; Léxico huichol; Onomástica personal huichola; Toponimia huichola; Historia de los contactos entre huichol, náhuatl y español; El léxico de los sentidos en thapaneco, huichol, alemán y español: un estudio tipológico; Método para la alfabetización de jóvenes y adultos huicholes en su propia lengua. 
Es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores en la categoría III. Recibió en 2006 el reconocimiento Tenamaxtle por parte del Centro Universitario del Norte por su trayectoria de investigación de la zona norte de Jalisco, y en 2007 el Premio Jalisco en Humanidades, que otorga el Estado de Jalisco.
