Actress, director and playwright, she was born in the ancient Th'o’ (former name of the city of Mérida), Yucatán. Since childhood she was a student of notable directors, musicians, painters and set designers. In 1967, she started her professional life in the show H3Oof Alejandro Jodorowski. She has participated in more than 60 stage productions. She entered the world of cinema in 1968, she has acted in more than 40 feature films and received national and international awards. The film Living Nature on the Life of Frida Kahlo by Paul Leduc, is her best known work. She has been recognized for her performances on Mexican television. Since 1985, she has been working in favor of respecting the rights of indigenous children, and in 1990 she founded the Trust for the Health of Indigenous Children of Mexico. As a playwright and passionate about poetry, she has created shows inspired by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rosario Castellanos and Frida Kahlo, Julio Cortázar, erotic literature and poetry, and many others. She has participated in the scripts of Getrudis Bocanegra, Innocent voices. In 2017, she directed the documentary Building Dreams, about the process of building the Performing Arts Ensemble of the University of Guadalajara, and in 2019 she devised, created and directed the feature documentary, La llevada y la traída, which shows the tradition of the Virgin of Zapopan. She has participated in series such as El Señor de los Cielos, for Netflix; Mosquito Coast, with the character of The Matriarch, for Apple TV; Triptych, for Netflix. Her voice has been in the animated films of The Legend of the Nahuala, as the Nahuala; and in Disney's Coco as the character of Frida. Some of the most recent feature films and series already exhibited in which she has participated are: Macho, pero no tanto; El hubiera sí existe; Nadie sabrá nunca; Guadalupe Reyes; Mal de ojo, of nationwide exhibition and has been presented in Italy, Russia, England, the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Japan. Triptych,Hora marcada, Vecinos, Senda prohibida, among others. She is also dedicated to teaching her craft and directing actors in schools and universities in Mexico, and other countries.
