The University of Guadalajara, through a project created by the Environmental Sciences Museum as part of the University’s Cultural Center, and with the support of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, has established the José Emilio Pacheco City and Nature Award. The prize, which will be given for the first time this year, will be dedicated to poetry. The winning author, who must write in Spanish and have at least ten unpublished poems or poems published in the last five years that are related to nature, urban sustainability, socio-ecological harmony and environmental conservation, will be given a purse of US $10,000. The award is dedicated to poet José Emilio Pacheco, whose work explores the duality between cities and nature.
Created by the University of Guadalajara, and with the collaboration of the National Institute for Indigenous Languages, the Culture Ministry, the National Commission for the Development of the Indigenous Cultures and Jalisco’s Department of Education, the American Indigenous Literature Award is granted to enrich, protect and promote the legacy and richness of Mexico’s indigenous peoples through literature in all its forms, and to and acknowledge and further develop the careers and works of indigenous authors. The award, which carries a purse of US $25,000, will be given for the fourth time at the 2016 FIL Guadalajara.
The SM Ibero-American Award for Literature for Children and Young People was implemented in 2005, the year of Ibero-American literature, with the goal of promoting literature for children and young people throughout Ibero-America. The award is given out each year during the Guadalajara International Book Fair to recognize writers of literature for children and young people and carries a purse of US $30,000.

With the goal of creating a network that helps to encourage the work of illustrators of books for children and young people in Ibero-America, the SM Foundation and the FIL Guadalajara invites illustrators to submit their work to be included in the Annual Ibero-American Illustration Catalog. The 45 works selected will be displayed in an exposition at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. In addition, illustrators will have the opportunity to work on an illustrated book with Ediciones SM and the winner will be given US $5,000. On the occasion of Spain being the Guest of Honor at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2024, the 5th International Booksellers Forum and the 6th Meeting of Ibero-American Independent Bookstores and Publishers, "Another Perspective," will be held jointly. These two internationally renowned professional events are key references for the book sector in Spain and Latin America.
The dual event, organized by Librería Carlos Fuentes, the Guadalajara International Book Fair, the University of Guadalajara Press, and Librería Cálamo, is sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. It aims to analyze the current state of editorial relationships between Mexico, Spain, and Latin America, glimpse their future, and contribute to the creation of permanent networks for cultural, social, and economic collaboration.
The events will take place from December 1 to 3, 2024, as part of the FIL Guadalajara professional program, and will feature debate panels, conferences, workshops, and networking opportunities.

Nicolás Leyton
He has worked as a contributor to written media and as a university professor for 10 years. Since 2010, he has been a partner and founder of La Pollera Ediciones, where he manages and directs projects as well as edits the books published by the editorial house. At the end of 2022, he joined Big Sur, a book distributor based in Chile and Argentina, as the head of New Business. He also participates in the La Furia del Libro team as the person responsible for the internationalization of the fair.
Víctor Malumián
Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences (UBA). Along with Hernán López Winne, he founded Ediciones Godot in 2008. In 2012, they created the Feria de Editores, which, in its latest edition, welcomed over 330 publishers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. In 2016, he co-authored the book "Independientes ¿de qué?" published by Fondo de Cultura Económica in Mexico. In 2017, he co-founded Carbono, a distributor providing logistical solutions to Ediciones Godot, Gourmet Musical, Sigilo, Barrett, Chai, and El Gato y la Caja. In 2023, they launched "Metonimia libros," a small bookstore in the northern area of Buenos Aires. In 2024, he published "El destino de una caja" with the editorial Gris Tormenta, which explores the vicissitudes of book distribution and cooperation among colleagues.

Isabella Varela
Bookseller, cultural manager, and editor with over ten years of experience in the publishing sector. She graduated in Social Communication with an emphasis on editorial and multimedia production from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She is currently the curator, head bookseller, and cultural manager at La Verbena, a bookstore and cultural center in northern Bogotá, recognized by the BibloRed Directorate of Reading and Libraries as an innovative practice in the mediation and promotion of reading, writing, and oral culture in the city. She has worked as a bookseller at Libélula Libros (Armenia) and FCE (Bogotá). Her mission as a bookseller is to create inclusive, gentle, and welcoming spaces to connect readers of all ages with books as a means of dialogue and to contribute to strengthening the community.
Genoveva Muñoz
Genoveva Muñoz Castillo (Mexico City, 1981) is one of the editors at La Cifra, a Mexican independent publishing house that publishes graphic novels, comics, and illustrated albums, as well as novels, short stories, and essays. A crucial part of her work has been establishing collaborative relationships with other publishers to find new ways to address distribution and exhibition challenges faced by independent publishers.

Es editor, investigador independiente y docente universitario. Como editor general de Ediciones Vestigio desde 2018 ha editado más de 40 libros de ciencia ficción, literatura extraña y bizarro. Publicó las antologías Relojes que no marcan la misma hora (2017), El tercer mundo después del sol (2021), y Futuras (2023), entre otras. Escribió Cuerpos luminares y de otras dimensiones, ganador del Premio Julio González Gómez (2023) como libro de ensayo colombiano más importante del 2022. Relatos suyos han sido publicados en antologías como Brecha II (2024) y Contaminación futura 10 (2024). Su primera novela Lo incandescente (2025) fue ganadora de la convocatoria a obra inédita 2024 del Ministerio de las Culturas y la Biblioteca Nacional.
