The University of Guadalajara, through a project created by the Environmental Sciences Museum as part of the University’s Cultural Center, and with the support of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, has established the José Emilio Pacheco City and Nature Award. The prize, which will be given for the first time this year, will be dedicated to poetry. The winning author, who must write in Spanish and have at least ten unpublished poems or poems published in the last five years that are related to nature, urban sustainability, socio-ecological harmony and environmental conservation, will be given a purse of US $10,000. The award is dedicated to poet José Emilio Pacheco, whose work explores the duality between cities and nature.
Created by the University of Guadalajara, and with the collaboration of the National Institute for Indigenous Languages, the Culture Ministry, the National Commission for the Development of the Indigenous Cultures and Jalisco’s Department of Education, the American Indigenous Literature Award is granted to enrich, protect and promote the legacy and richness of Mexico’s indigenous peoples through literature in all its forms, and to and acknowledge and further develop the careers and works of indigenous authors. The award, which carries a purse of US $25,000, will be given for the fourth time at the 2016 FIL Guadalajara.
The SM Ibero-American Award for Literature for Children and Young People was implemented in 2005, the year of Ibero-American literature, with the goal of promoting literature for children and young people throughout Ibero-America. The award is given out each year during the Guadalajara International Book Fair to recognize writers of literature for children and young people and carries a purse of US $30,000.

With the goal of creating a network that helps to encourage the work of illustrators of books for children and young people in Ibero-America, the SM Foundation and the FIL Guadalajara invites illustrators to submit their work to be included in the Annual Ibero-American Illustration Catalog. The 45 works selected will be displayed in an exposition at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. In addition, illustrators will have the opportunity to work on an illustrated book with Ediciones SM and the winner will be given US $5,000. Artificial intelligence is already a part of our lives, and it is important to understand how it is impacting creative processes, as well as the actions being taken by authors' organizations and public bodies to regulate and ensure its ethical use.

Poly Bernatene
Author/illustrator, President of ADA (Association of Argentine Illustrators) since 2003. He has published numerous children's and young adult books in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Spain, England, Australia, Greece, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, France, China, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. He has also contributed to various magazines such as “Billiken,” “Jardín,” “Genios” from Clarín, and “Orsai,” and was the Co-Art Director of the magazine “Bonsai.” Additionally, he has participated in illustration exhibitions and biennials and has received national and international awards. Recently, he was honored with the “Pregonero de honor 2024” award from the Fundación El Libro of Argentina for his work in promoting and disseminating children's and young adult literature.

Rafael Morales
Matemático por la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Maestro en Ciencias Computacional por el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (México) y Doctor en Inteligencia Artificial por la Universidad de Edimburgo (Escocia, Reino Unido). Ha sido investigador del Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas, en Cuernavaca, Morelos, México, investigador asociado en la Universidad de Northumbria en Newcastle y la Universidad de Glasgow, en el Reino Unido. Actualmente es profesor investigador de la Universidad de Guadalajara, miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (Nivel I) y miembro regular de la Academia Mexicana de Computación.
Su desarrollo como investigador ha sido en el área de los sistemas y ambientes educativos mediados por tecnologías de información y comunicación digitales, así como en el área de la Inteligencia Artificial relacionada con la implementación de memorias asociativas, distribuidas y entrópicas, que se comportan de maneras más cercanas a como lo hace la memoria humana.
Ha sido coordinador del Doctorado en Sistemas y Ambientes Educativos y es actualmente Director Editorial de la revista Apertura, en la Universidad de Guadalajara.
María Fernanda Mendoza Ochoa
Egresada con Mención Honorífica de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Cuenta con la especialidad en Propiedad Intelectual por el Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados de México y un diplomado en Derecho de las Telecomunicaciones, por el Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas de la UNAM. Hasta 2009 fue directora general CemPro, sociedad de gestión colectiva. Imparte cursos y talleres sobre la materia en diversas universidades del país, colabora con Conaculta, ANUIES y la CANIEM; instructora para actividades de formación de CERLALC, sociedades de derechos reprográficos, bibliotecarios, editores y autores en países latinoamericanos. Consultora del International Authors Forum para México y América Latina.
