Two of the most significant writers of Ukraine’s contemporary literary scene, Yuri Andrukhovych and Yevheniya Kuznetsova, will take over FIL Guadalajara to talk with the Mexican writer Ana García Bergua about the role that humorous resources play in literature, in particular the sense of humor, insight and imagination.
Andrukhovych, a prose, poetry and essay writer, as well as a translator, is one of the founders of the Bu-Ba-Bu literary group, with a focus on postmodernism in his country. His works have been translated into 22 languages and have earned him awards such as the Herder Prize (2001), the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize (2005) and the Central European Literary Award Angelus (2006), in addition to that, his work Twelve Circles received the European Approach Award (2006).
For her part, Kuznetsova is a writer, translator and researcher. She graduated from the Kiev National University, and later from a doctorate in literary analysis in Spain. Currently, she focuses on media research, specializing in reporting on sensitive conflicts and combating disinformation, while translating fiction and non-fiction works. In 2023 she won the Book of the Year Award in Ukraine for her novel The Ladder, and was nominated for the European Union Literature Prize in 2022.
Mexican writer Ana García Bergua will join forces with the two Ukrainian writers. She was awarded the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize in 2013 for her novel La bomba de San José, within the FIL Guadalajara.
