Biography
Poet, novelist, essayist, and literary critic, Mircea Cărtărescu is considered by critics to be the most important Romanian writer of the present day and a potential Nobel Prize laureate. He has published more than thirty books, translated into 23 languages. Notable works include The Levant, Nostalgia, Blinding, Solenoid, and Travesti. In Romania, he has received the country’s most prestigious literary awards, including those of the Romanian Writers’ Union and the Romanian Academy. Internationally, he has been honored with the Austrian State Prize for European Literature, the Leteo Prize for Lifetime Achievement, the Thomas Mann Prize, and the Formentor Prize.
