Biography
Born in Mexico City on October 8, 1949, David Huerta was a poet, essayist, and translator. He studied philosophy and English and Spanish literature at UNAM. He taught courses at the Octavio Paz Foundation and the Foundation for Mexican Letters; served as editorial secretary of La Gaceta of the Fondo de Cultura Económica; was a member of the editorial board of Letras Libres; and directed Periódico de PoesÃa. He collaborated with numerous cultural supplements and journals. A Guggenheim Fellow (1978) and recipient of FONCA support, he was a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators. Among many distinctions, he received the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize, the National Prize for Sciences and Arts, and the José Emilio Pacheco Excellence in Letters Award.
