Biography

Fernando del Paso was born in 1935 in Mexico City and was one of the most important writers of contemporary Mexican literature. He published fundamental novels such as José Trigo, Palinuro de México—awarded the Rómulo Gallegos Prize—and Noticias del Imperio, works that established him internationally. In addition to his narrative, he developed a wide production of essays, poetry, theatre, children’s literature, and illustrated books. Throughout his trajectory he received numerous recognitions, including the National Prize for Letters and Arts, and was named Emeritus Creator of the National System of Art Creators. He was a member of El Colegio Nacional and directed the Octavio Paz Ibero-American Library of the University of Guadalajara. His work left a decisive mark on Spanish-language literature.
