Biography
Carlos Monsiváis was one of the most influential intellectuals and chroniclers in Mexico. Trained at UNAM, he developed an outstanding journalistic and cultural career as collaborator and founder of key media outlets in the country. His extensive work encompassed chronicle, essay, and narrative, and offered a critical and sharp portrait of Mexican political, social, and cultural life. Author of fundamental books such as DÃas de guardar and Los rituales del caos, he received numerous recognitions, among them the National Prize for Sciences and Arts and the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize.
