Biography
Juan Goytisolo (Barcelona, 1931) was one of the most important Spanish writers of the twentieth century and a prominent figure in world literature. After abandoning his law studies, he settled in Paris, where he worked as a literary advisor and developed much of his work. He published fundamental novels such as Juegos de manos, Señas de identidad, Reivindicación del conde don Julián, and Makbara, as well as memoirs and essays. His work, translated into numerous languages, received awards such as the Europalia, the Nelly-Sachs, and the Octavio Paz. Goytisolo also taught at universities in the United States and participated in cultural and television projects that promoted dialogue between cultures.
