Biography

He was born in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, in 1932 and died in Mexico City in 2003. His early studies were with the Marist brothers, and later he studied literature in Mexico City. His vast body of work includes poetry, theatre, short story, novel, essay, and criticism both in the literary field and in the visual arts. He belongs to the Generation of the Rupture or of the Casa del Lago, a group distinguished by renewing Mexican art through an objective and unprejudiced optic toward its aesthetic reality, which led it to open itself to universal currents. In García Ponce’s work stand out La noche (1963), La aparición invisible (1968), La errancia sin fin: Musil, Borges, Klossowsky (1981), El gato y otros cuentos (1984), Crónica de la intervención (1984), Inmaculada o los placeres de la inocencia (1989), among many other titles.
