Creating readers

Festival of European Literature

“Literature allows us to become contemporaries of all men and citizens of all countries.”

Antoine Houdar de la Motte

The Festival has its roots in the Festival of European Letters and was founded 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the European Union. The festival was held in various places throughout Mexico and has been included in the events of the Guadalajara International Book Fair since 2011.

Focusing on topics including passion and hope, the Festival has become a space for a wide variety of authors representing the various regions of Europe to come together to discuss and share reflections on literature.

The event is held to promote literary exchange between the countries of the European Union and Mexico and to share a contemporary literary panorama from the old world with Latin American readers. The festival shows how the diverse and multicultural nature of the European Union allows for the harmonious coexistence between member countries.
