Tribute to a Bibliophile
The pleasure of holding an incunabulum or a work of which only a few copies survive; the experience of smelling and contemplating thousands of volumes arranged on floor-to-ceiling shelves; the more or less familiar names stamped on their endpapers; and the appreciation of a singular book, uniquely bound or marked with a personal firebrand, are among the motives of the bibliophile. A bibliophile is a devoted lover of the past, an avid and erudite reader, and above all, a defender of the wisdom contained in books.
