Workshop: reading as a material experience

Salón D, Área Internacional, Expo Guadalajara

This talk explores the editorial and design processes that have led Alboroto Ediciones to develop projects focused on tactile reading and accessibility. Drawing from experiences such as El bolso Animal, The Black Book of Colors, and the creation of Alboroto Font, a monospaced typeface designed to accompany the Braille system, it examines how the book can function as a space for sensory research.

The discussion invites reflection on the relationship between form, texture, and legibility, as well as on the technical and conceptual challenges of producing inclusive materials for early childhood. From the selection of materials to typographic design, it explores the materiality of the book as a key component in constructing meaning and expanding contemporary reading practices.
