Antonio Prata was born in São Paulo. He has published ten compilations of articles and short story collections as well as a book for children titled, Felizes quase sempre (Editora 34, 2011). His most recent books are Meio intelectual, meio de esquerda (Editora 34, 2010), a selection of articles for newspapers and magazines, and Naked, in Boots (Cia. Das Letras, 2013). In Naked, in Boots, he combines memories and short stories to narrate his life from his first memories until his 10th birthday. Both books were finalists for the Jabutí Literature Prize and the Brasilia Literary Prize in 2012 and 2014 respectively, in the stories and articles category. Naked, in Boots was also a finalist for the Portugal Telecom Prize for Literature.
Prata writes articles for the Sunday edition of the newspaper Folha de São Paulo and works as a screen and scriptwriter for movies and television. He was hired by the television station Rede Globo and contributed to the soap opera magazines Bang-Bang, Avenida Brasil and A regra do jogo, currently on air. In April 2013 he wrote the first episode of the series Os Experientes, also for Rede Globo, directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardner and Blindness).
In 2013 Granta magazine named him one of the 20 Best Young Spanish-Language Novelists. |
